Boundaries are a form of care, not conflict

Healthcare culture rewards people who never say no. Extra shifts, skipped breaks, and constant availability get framed as dedication. Over time they get framed as burnout.

A boundary is simply a clear statement of what you can give. It protects your energy so the care you offer stays consistent instead of running on empty.

Practice short, kind, complete sentences. I am not available Saturday. I can stay one hour, not three. I need my lunch break today. No explanation is required, and a boundary followed by an apology stops being a boundary.

Expect discomfort at first. People who benefited from your lack of limits will notice the change. That discomfort is not proof you did something wrong.

Start with one boundary this week. Write it down, say it once, and hold it. Confidence is built by repetition, not by waiting to feel ready.
